The problem with the debate over gun control, and most other debatable topics, is that all parties involved see the issue in black and white. In regards to gun violence in the US, responsibility is widespread. Bad parenting, bad gun control, lack of security, video games and music, mental illness, etc. It's all part of the problem, and sitting around pointing fingers at the people who use the things you don't doesn't accomplish a damn thing. Same issue with the fiscal cliff; Get over yourselves and your own opinions for the greater good, please.
XJss, you are absolutely right, all these things have factor, and it is not black and white.
Problem is moves ,videos games it all about money, more violence more money. The NRA was for background checks, but the gun companies (The ones that t pull the stings of the NRA ) said no, so the NRA did a 180. Why? Background check reduces sales, less money. In fact every time there is a shooting gun sales sky rocket. More mass shootings the higher the profit for the gun makes and increase members in the NRA. I am sure the gun maker’s jump for joy after each mass shooting. They know it is bonus time.
I would not be surprised to find that the disgusting human beings who have entered public places and opened fire on innocent people at one point or another played violent video games. However, you can also say this about a massive majority of the population in the US and Europe under the age of 40.
Virtual worlds are an artform, the same as a film or novel. If an element of gun violence is present, it is simply representing the realistic situation being portrayed.
If games like Call of Duty Black Ops 2 were not as popular as they are, it would be more alarming to find that the violent shooters who caused these events were playing them. However, there is almost always around 400,000 at any given time playing Black Ops 2 online. That ONLY includes the people who are playing competitively online, and only on Xbox. You can double the number when you include Playstation, and you can add even more for the pc version.
It's frustrating to watch a growing artform be attacked because there is no explanation for the madness going on in the world and a scapegoat is required.

Video games cause violence in real life?
C'mon man! Video games are not the problem with gun violence. Not unless you include other negatives in front of video games, like schools without prayer or God, gender confusion, lack of fathers in households, poverty, self destructive behaviors that are measureable before the violence actually occurs...
Let's face it, the NRA has a membership that doesn't have many people who suffer from the ills I listed above. The very act of becomming an NRA member is a positive action, not negative. Gun manufacturers can't really boast the same for themselves.
But video games being blamed for violence seems about as ludicrous as blaming big breasts as the cause of rape. No woman would subscribe to that theory because it removes all blame from the rapist and puts it on the victim. Neither should we give a pass to those who decide and act to commit horrific crimes of violence.
